Riot Categories in Minnesota

- Riot in the First Degree – An intentional act or threat of unlawful force or violence by three or more people that results in death and one of the persons is armed with a dangerous weapon. Felony with a sentence up to 20 years in prison and/or a $35,000 fine;
- Riot in the Second Degree – An intentional act or threat of unlawful force or violence by three or more people where participant is armed with a dangerous weapon or knows that any other participant is armed with a dangerous weapon. Felony with a sentence up to 5 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine;
- Riot in the Third Degree – An intentional act or threat of unlawful force or violence to persons or property, by three or more people, which disturbs the public peace. Gross Misdemeanor with a sentence up to one year in jail and/or a $3,000 fine.
